Key Ingredients

You can find the full printable recipe, including ingredient quantities, below. But first, here are some explanations of ingredients and steps to help you make this recipe perfect every time.

Here are the ingredients you’ll need for this recipe, including substitution ideas:

  • Vegan ice cream — You can use vanilla or even chocolate vegan ice cream.
  • Chocolate chips — There are so many great dairy-free chocolate chips to choose from.
  • Coconut oil — Using refined coconut oil has a more neutral flavor.
  • Sugar cones
  • Almonds — Or substitute your favorite nuts like pecans, walnuts, or even pistachios.

How to Make Vegan Drumsticks Ice Cream Treats

  1. Place the Vegan Ice Cream on the counter to allow it to soften.
  2. Combine the dark chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe container. Place in the microwave and heat for 30 seconds. Remove and stir and repeat this step until the chocolate chips and coconut oil have melted. Stir well to combine. Set aside.
  3. Pour about 1 tablespoon of the dark chocolate chip mixture into the bottom of four sugar cones. Place the cones in small glasses to keep them upright. You can also spread some of the melted chocolate along the inside of the sugar cones. Place them in the freezer so the chocolate can harden, anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes.
  4. Use an ice cream scooper or a large spoon to ladle the softened ice cream into the prepared sugar cones. Make sure to leave a nice dollop of ice cream at the top. Place these in the freezer so the ice cream can firm up, around 10 minutes.
  5. Spread a generous amount of the chocolate mixture over one drumstick and roll that in the chopped nuts while the chocolate is still spreadable. Place it back in the freezer. Repeat with each of the drumsticks.
  6. Once the drumsticks have firmed up, place them in a plastic bag or container for storage. When you’re ready to eat them, remove them from the freezer for about 5 to 10 minutes to allow the ice cream to soften before eating.

Storage Tips

Store these treats in a freezer-safe container in the back of your freezer. Ice cream is best when it’s not subject to constantly changing temperatures as it would be at the front of the freezer. When you’re ready to eat, leave them on the counter for a few minutes to soften first.

You are seriously making my dreams come true. For the past few weeks I’ve been telling my husband over and over how much I would *love* to have a vegan drumstick. And then you went and posted this recipe (for the best lookin’ drumsticks I’ve ever seen). I can’t wait to make these. And, for the record, I have no intentions of planning any sort of activity to make up for it. 😉

It’s good to be honest with ourselves! I also thought we could make our own homemade vegan ice cream, but figured why not keep it simple…to start with!

I did this last year for the fourth, except I made a dozen and turned it into a labor intensive, messy, two day process involving coating the inside of each cone completely with chocolate, filling with ice cream, smoothing the top scoop in a different step, etc and freezing for like 2 hours between each step haha! I chronicaled it for a post, Never again!! This year I found and made a recipe for raw vegan drumsticks, but by far yours just seems so much easier! Plus they are pretty!

I was so amused by your comments about “right?”. I’ve been hearing it a lot in the last year and also find it annoying.

    The drumsticks look delicious!

It is so annoying, right? Sorry. I just couldn’t help myself.

I think what’s so annoying is that the implication is that you’re supposed to agree. What would happen if you said, “Well, actually, I don’t think that’s correct.” You’re automatically put in an oppositional position. It’s not right I tell you! Not right at all!
