Berry Smoothie

This frozen Berry Smoothie recipe is a celebration of deliciousness made with strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. This smoothie is naturally sweetened and uses a blender to blend everything from frozen bananas to berries in minutes. Serve this berry shake for breakfast, as a snack, or even dessert!

When it’s berry season you want to amp up the berries in your diet. And when I say “you” I mean “me too” because I’m obsessed with all things berries. Look at these Blueberry Crumble Bars and this vegan Raw Cheesecake.

So, I’m looking for all the ways to use berries in my diet. For example, this purple smoothie bowl is a favorite!

The thing is, berries are so healthy! They’re very nutrient-dense, referring to the number of nutrients per calorie. Smoothies are a great way to get more berries in my diet.

Berry Smoothie Ingredients

Here are the ingredients you’ll need for this recipe, including substitution ideas:

  • Berries — I use mixed frozen berries, but you can substitute your favorite fresh berries, like strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. If using fresh berries, you’ll need to add ice to the blender.
  • Bananas — I use frozen bananas for this recipe. It’s easy to freeze bananas, by peeling them, chopping them, and placing them in a freezer bag. Then put the bag in the freezer.

Marly’s Tips

For a real change of pace, add some chopped fresh pineapple to the blender. Here’s more on cutting a pineapple the easiest way possible!

You can make a healthy berry smoothie without yogurt and using your favorite berries. I like to add a frozen banana to add creamy sweetness to my easy smoothies. In addition, you can add spinach (or other healthy greens like kale or chard), for added nutrition.

What Berries are Best for Smoothies?

Recipes for berry smoothies often include strawberries in the mix because of their bright color and flavor. You can use a mixture of berries, including strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and more.

Are smoothies healthy?

Smoothies are a great way of getting a lot of healthy veggie/fruity nutrients in one sitting. You can make fruit smoothies or even add power greens for green smoothies. Berries are considered superfoods because they offer a high nutrient content with lower calories. That makes them perfect for including in your next smoothie.

Oh my, 20 grams of sugar is a huge amount for me first thing in the morning. I’m cutting the banana in 1/2 and upping the soy milk and berries a bit.. Looks fabulous, I can hardly wait to try it!
