Vegan Onion Dip

This easy vegan French Onion dip is a creamy appetizer that makes snack time a treat. Serve this dip with tortilla chips, potato chips, crackers, or veggies, and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 medium onions , peeled and diced
  • 2 cloves garlic , peeled and minced
  • 1 ½ cups vegan sour cream (see notes)
  • cup vegan mayo
  • 2 teaspoons vegan worcestershire sauce
  • ¾ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons dehydrated onions
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped (substitute 1 tablespoon dried)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, leaves removed from the stem (substitute 1/4 teaspoon dried)

Instructions

  • Heat the oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the onions, stirring until coated with oil. Cook and stir the onions for 2 minutes, then reduce the heat to medium. Continue cooking the onions until golden brown and caramelized around 10 minutes. Stir the skillet occasionally. If the onions stick to the pan, add a tablespoon of water.

  • Add garlic and cook for one minute. Transfer to a bowl and refrigerate.
  • Add the remaining ingredients to a bowl and stir to combine.
    Seasonings and sauce has been added to sour cream in a bowl. Fresh herbs surround the bowl.
  • Set aside a few tablespoons of the cooked onions. Stir the rest of the onions into the dip.

  • Taste and season with extra salt, pepper, and herbs.
  • Garnish with reserved onions and herbs. Serve with potato chips, baked potatoes, and more!
  • Store this dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Make-Ahead Tip:

Make this dip a day ahead and then store it in the fridge in a lidded container. 

Vegan Sour Cream

You can use storebought vegan sour cream or use homemade, such as cashew cream.
