Have I mentioned that I grew up in a small town? OK. Maybe I have a time or two. Not only that, but our family was, well, on the economically challenged side. And the thing is about growing up in a poor family in a small town, your world view can be kind of limited. You may have passions  or skills that you will never even know about because you aren’t even exposed to them.

The thing is, I was prepared to stand in the face of all that. Persevere! Be strong against the forces of the status quo! To me that meant working hard to get my bachelor’s degree in business, even though no one else in my family had a college degree. And to show the world even more what I had in me, I continued on and got my master’s degree in business too. But here’s the deal, if you and I were to sit and have tea (wouldn’t that be fun!),  you would probably not think of me as someone with an MBA. I’m a little bit more free spirited than the average MBA. Don’t get me wrong, I can work a spreadsheet like nobody’s business. And I’ve experienced success in the business world and enjoyed the challenges it presented. And yet, things were not quite right.

There was something missing.

Today I know exactly what was missing in my life. That’s because today I have this blog sharing recipes with you all. And I love it! And I think back on the days of my youth, in that small town, and how I loved spending time in the kitchen even then. I would experiment with recipes, making things up based on ideas I got from who knows where. We only had a Betty Crocker cookbook  and I wasn’t one to sit around reading anyway. I liked being up and about; moving around. And the kitchen was a great place to accomplish that.

The thing is, I had no idea someone could go to school to learn how to cook!

So I poured myself into the area of education that seemed most accessible…business. Now let me preface, business school is a great area of study. Over the years I grew to love it.

But for a person to be able to do the thing that they’re passionate about? Well, in my book that is really living.

And I’m passionate about food — cooking; recipe development; food photography — and finding ways to share all that with you.

So to be able to be a part of Rouxbe’s Plant-Based Professional Certification Course is better than a dream come true. It’s realizing a dream that I didn’t even know I had in the first place.

I’m a teacher and a coach and it was always my goal to be better at my job tomorrow than I was today. It sounds like you have the same mentality. Good Luck.

Thanks, Christina. Sometimes you just have to go with your small town roots. You’re a Texas girl so I bet you get that too!
