Goodnight Summer

Fall settled in swiftly here in the Missouri. And the stores remind us it’s time to get out decorations for Halloween. What an exciting time of year!

But summer is a season that doesn’t like to give in so easily and we’ve found ourselves experiencing a “heatwave” of sorts. Summer’s last breath has been effective in causing me to reminisce. I’ve been thinking about some of the fun we had this summer. Dinners with friends, building a deck, road trips to family farms, and flowers. There are, of course, some not so favorite memories too such as squirrels eating every last bit of fruit from our backyard trees. I guess if those are the worst of my problems, life is pretty good.

You  know I love colder weather, and I’m really looking forwarding to the Fall and Winter, but I can still take a moment and remember the not so lazy, hazy days behind us. Here are some of my favorite Namely Marly posts from this summer:

I picked a few summer flowers for you to help remember this summer’s past.

There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart. — Celia Thaxter

Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair. — Susan Polis Shutz

I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers — Claude Monet

The violets in the mountains have broken the rocks. — Tennessee Williams

Earth laughs in flowers. — Ralph Waldo Emerson

I hope you all have wonderful memories to look back on as well…and many more to look forward to. Oh, the places we’ll go tomorrow!
