The Secular Vegan

If you’ve committed yourself to a vegan or vegan-leaning diet, then I say, kudos to you! Welcome to the club! I call myself a Secular Vegan, because I’m not a dogmatic vegan. We’ve all met a few of those, right?

Well, I’m passionate about my diet and lifestyle, but I just don’t have it in me to be a zealot about it. I’m not a “my way or the high way” kind of person. For example, I’m a vegan and I eat honey. I’ve noticed quite a few plant-based diet gurus are fine with honey too.

I think being a Secular Vegan gives you permission to make incremental changes in your diet. That’s how I did it! First I went vegetarian, then over a period of years I gave up eggs, and then milk and butter, and then finally mozzarella. The was a tough one! Oh, and M&Ms.

But my taste buds have guided me along the way, because as I gave up certain foods (like milk), eventually I lost my taste buds for it. Now the taste of milk from a cow is really disgusting, but I love almond milk. Go figure!

For sure, when you first start making your vegan recipes, it’s good to keep things simple. That’s why I created this round-up of simple vegan recipes for beginners, sharing some of my favorite, easiest, and tastiest recipes!

Below, I’m sharing everything from appetizers to main dishes, to desserts. It’s all covered. Oh, and this is only Part I! There will be more simple vegan recipes coming your way soon!

I love this vegan queso dip, because it’s just five ingredients. I mean, you can always add Sriracha (if you love it spicy like me! 🔥).

This vegan ranch dip is perfect with veggies, but you can also dip potato chips and crackers in it too. And guess what? I love using it as a salad dressing. You’ll need some plain vegan yogurt (as in unsweetened) and I find that at our local health food store and Sprouts.

I wonder if I surprised you with this one! Who knew that a vegan pull-apart bread would be “easy”. But this recipe calls for a store-bought round loaf, making it a quick appetizer to pull together…and then pull-apart. 🙂
